About CICS
Who is CICS (sounds like kicks)
We are a group of neighbors who live in and around
Margaretville who want to help revitalize the village we
love.
Our first meeting was August, 2006. Members include
old-timers, new-comers, weekenders, and shop-owners – a
truly diverse and inclusive group. In addition, we include
representatives from our local institutions: Mayor Bill
Stanton’s office, the Village Planning Board, the
Margaretville Volunteer Fire Department, the Greater
Margaretville Chamber of Commerce, the Margaretville
Memorial Hospital, the Margaretville Central School, the
Boy Scouts, and local businesses.
Our goal is to help implement existing revitalization plans
by striking creative partnerships like this one with
Parsons and identifying new funding sources.
What is our overall plan?
We are focusing our revitalization efforts on the Gateway
to Margaretville, especially the public grounds between
Main Street and Route 28. We want to make Margaretville a
more attractive and inviting community for its residents,
visitors, and tourists.
We believe that through our efforts we can bring more
recreation to the Village Park behind the A&P, clean up
the old gas station lot, beautify the Delaware River and
the Binnekill Creek, identify new parking space, and give
people more things to do in our wonderful community.
Hopefully we can help turn around the Main Street business
decline and increase our draw as a tourist destination.
